The university welcomes students to a new semester

University officials welcomed over 1700 students to our branch campuses in Cuenca and Quito for a new semester. The event was held online and broadcast through the university's social networks.

UPS president Juan Cardenas welcomed everyone to this new semester and said "We have come to the university to enjoy science, knowledge, research and cooperative learning, not to build a degree, but to become better people because having an education means living responsibly". 

Maria Sol Villagomez, vice president of our campus in Quito, spoke about the university and explained that it is part of 95 Salesian Higher Education Institutions around the world, which are located  in 22 countries in America, Africa, Europe and Asia. "Salesian education has been in Ecuador for over one hundred years with different education levels, sectors and contexts. We are committed to supporting you through our salesian style. We expect you all to show dedication and positive attitude for your daily activities", she said.

Fernando Moscoso, vice president in our campus in Cuenca, stated that the university is committed to students' education, not only from an academic point of view, but human as well. 
Oscar Caiza, student and member of the students' federation – FEUPS, invited all students to contribute and strengthen educational processes at the university. "We want to become responsible men and women and be active participants in society in order to make this country better. 

Juan Pablo Salgado, head of research, spoke about the university's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem "StartUPS" whose aim is to develop students' skills and innovation beyond the classroom. "Take advantage of all opportunities, go beyond the topics you learn in class and prepare yourselves to create a culture of common good", he stated. 

Bernardo Salgado, head of community engagement and internationalization, explained how students can complement their education by participating in programs such as "UPS in the world", which allows students to go on Exchange programs to other universities around the world. 

Classes begin on October 12th and will be done online.
