Our branch campus in Quito held one final event as part of the Latin American Dissemination program; this last event was about rock in Ecuador and the special guest was Andres Sacoto, a well-known singer, producer and composer. The event was broadcast live through facebook @CulturaUPS and was joined by people from the Salesian institutions of higher education (IUS) from Chile, Bolivia, Argentina and El Salvador.

Sacoto explained that this music genre gained momentum in the 80´s; regarding new combinations, he stated that new proposals enrich music and keep some older songs alive.

In relation to obstacles as an artist, he said that the biggest obstacle is oneself. "We need to be creative, have a high positive energy; each artist represents a unique expression and we must project that". He encouraged future artists to work on sound expression, aesthetics and make music that they like the most. "You have to let art do its job, the work must be honest and very personal and above all it must make you happy," he concluded.

This is one of the 30 cultural event that were held during the pandemic, among the most prominent were: "Independent Latin American dubbing: myths and truths" by Julio Jaramillo Arroyo, producer and independent artist who shared his experience on dubbing films, series and documentaries.

In the webinar "Capoeira: characteristics and benefits", Sophia Delfín spoke about intercultural practice and African struggles. Among the characteristics, she mentioned that they depend on the type of capoeira, be it from Angola that uses the body and a symbolic interpretation or the regional one that uses fast movements or the contemporary one with a more acrobatic tendency.

In another session, participants learned about yoga with Mayra Chiriboga, who taught attendees to connect their bodies through mindful breathing using physical postures and meditation. There was also space for music with the session "The culture of salsa" with Peter Aráuz, CEO of Salsa Pa´l Barrio, who talked about how this genre started, its strengthening, commercialization and its arrival to Ecuador.

Students who make up the Salesian Culture groups talked about their experience in articulating their artistic performance with academic life in talk titled: "Youth, art and academic life".
The aim of this cultural project is to reactivate art and culture among the university community of the countries where Salesian institutions of higher education IUS are present: UPS in Ecuador, the Catholic University Don Bosco in El Salvador (UCDB); the Silva Henríquez Catholic University of Chile (UCSH); the Salesian University of Bolivia (USB) and the Salesian University of Argentina (UNISAL)
