The university's branch campus in Guayaquil and the Afro Ecuadorian women's Association "Valle del future" signed an agreement with representatives of the Ministry of Social and Economic Inclusion (MIES for its acronym in Spanish) which is aimed at eradicating mendicity in the province of Guayas.

This event was attended by Angela Ramirez, director of the Afro Ecuadorian women's Association; Luisa Vargas, representative of MIES; and Hugo Iñiguez, representative from our university. "The aim is to have agreements and institutional commitments that will help us eradicate mendicity in the north of Guayaquil", stated Ramirez.

Hugo Iñiguez, UPS professor and coordinator of community engagement for the industrial engineering undergraduate program, stated that "the university is working on projects that will enable the creation of startups that will manufacture cleaning products."

Jaheli Simisterra, industrial engineering student, has been working with the association and planned this meeting, which was also attended by members of the Police and the Ministry of Public Health.

"The aim is to benefit 100 poor families in the following sectors: Monte Sinaí, Flor de Bastión, Socio Vivienda, Nueva Prosperina, Bastión Popular and Ladrillera, located in the north of Guayaquil", said Iñiguez.
