The university organized a webinar to discuss how to create a peaceful environment and have good coexistence, key factors to eradicate gender violence. The aim of the webinar is to create awareness on this problem and create strategies to prevent it. The speakers were Juan Cardenas, UPS president, and Maria Sol Villagomez, vice president of the university's campus in Quito.

Juan Cardenas spoke about the preventive system and explained that it requires us to focus our attention on people and the environment we create. The salesian charisma means we feel responsible for others, "we must trust young people, worry about their needs, an educator must love and transform"

Villagómez explained the research project "Indigenous women and higher education", carried out by the Education and Interculturality Research Group, which presents the experiences of nine Kichwa women from rural communities in the provinces of Cotopaxi, Pichincha and Imbabura at the university and how this experience enriched their personal, family and professional life.

"For an educational project to be relevant, it is necessary to know who our students are, their characteristics and expectations, and then think about possible strategies," she said. They then presented a video on sexual harassment carried out by seven universities in Ecuador, It has reliable data that can develop institutional and national policies for detection, prevention and attention on this social problem.

Some important data from the research was that 5 out of 10 female students have suffered, at least once in their academic life, a situation of sexual harassment. 4 out of 10 female teachers have been harassed, at least once during their university life, which is more than double of their male peers. 3 out of 10 women in administrative and service personnel have experienced sexual harassment in the university environment.

The next webinar will be held on December 8, the topic: "Culture of peace and good coexistence: public policies for its eradication" and will be broadcast on Facebook @UPSalesianaEC.
