Rony Morocho, a student majoring in biomedicine in our branch campus in Cuenca, won an international award at the International Ibero American Bootcamp organized by the Ibero American Association for Engineering Education) ASIBEI (for its acronym in Spanish); the event was held online.

Rony Morocho presented the project titled Green Gate which consists of a two-way bridge with pedestrian sidewalks and a bike path that provides eco-friendly and clean energy, made of steel with anti-seismic pillars which uses the energy provided by the oscillation of the structure through magnetic generators and also takes advantage of vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic through piezoelectric generators designed with recycled materials. All processed energy is stored in power plants located at the base of the pillars in order to replace the energy load produced by solar and wind producers.

The aim of the competition was that engineering students use their creativity to come up with innovative solutions related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Green Gate project took two days and it beat more than 600 competitors from all over the world. Ronny Morocho took the position of CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and is in charge of the management and administrative direction of the organization.
