UPS inaugurated the KUTUKÚ biology center

On Friday, June 19th UPS President Javier Herrán inaugurated the KUTUKÚ Biology Station located in the Sevilla Don Bosco district in the province of Morona Santiago in the Ecuadorian Amazon. This is a place where students, professors and researchers will create scientific knowledge and technological innovation.
The KUTUKÚ station is located in an area inhabited by the shuar community and has great biodiversity of flora and fauna since the Upano and Yuquipa rivers run through it. The station has been equipped for research activities, it has a botanic garden, a forest area and accommodation for up to 34 people.
The event began with a conference titled "Del big bang a la biodiversidad. ¿Qué espacios hay de por medio?" given by Dr. Medici, who has worked with UPS for 15 years. He is the autor of 112 works on science which have been published in international magazines, he is also one of the most renown chemists in Italy.
In this regard, the Salesian Missionary group in Sevilla Don Bosco and UPS signed an inter institutional cooperation agreement.
The university officials and other guests took a tour of the station and its surrounding for about one hour before the ribbon cutting ceremony.
