As part of “International Nursing Day”, Cayambe campus held a ceremony to place nursing caps and badges. This event provided an opportunity to discuss the current challenges and opportunities of this profession, commemorate a significant date, and identify the cap as a symbol of identity and commitment to the community.
During the ceremony, 31 nursing students received their caps and badges, which marks a milestone in their professional training. The event included a Mass celebrated by Fr. Marcelo Farfán Inspector of Salesians in Ecuador, and ended with the formal presentation of the badges to future professionals.
In his speech, Father Marcelo Farfán congratulated the students for their effort and dedication: "By receiving the cap and badge, each student not only takes another step toward the full practice of nursing, but also responsibly embraces the principles of empathy, humanity, ethics, and excellence that identifies this profession."
Carmen Vásquez Venegas, director of the Nursing major in Cayambe, stressed the commitment of this profession: “Being a nurse goes far beyond technical and scientific knowledge; it is an ethical, human, and social commitment that requires calling, sensitivity, and profound empathy for the suffering of others.”
She also stressed the importance of commemorating this event: “This moment is very emotional and meaningful, as it represents the conscious assumption of a professional role.”
During the ceremony, students took oath, led by Fr. Javier Herrán, director of the Cayambe Salesian House, pledging to “uphold the fundamental principles and values of this profession, to care for their patients with quality and warmth, and to uphold ethics and respect for human dignity.”
Ashly Espinoza, a student, said “You must always remember that both the caps and the badges are a symbol of pride, dedication, and love for this great profession. They represent the legacy of generations of nurses who have cared for people with wise hands and generous hearts.”
