UPS celebrates the 15th anniversary of the biotechnoly major: Science, academia and social responsibility
The biotechnology major in our branch campus in Cuenca celebrated its 15th anniversary by organizing an academic event that stressed its contribution to research and innovation. The Biotechnology Conference: Commemorating the Future, took place on June 16 and 17. This event, designed for students to engage in scientific exchange, featured keynote lectures by national and international experts in areas such as microbiology, genetics, environmental biotechnology, and biochemistry. The aim of the event was to strengthen critical thinking and the integration of knowledge among students, professors and researchers.
As part of the celebration, there was a formal meeting with the participation of university officials, graduates, students, and representatives of the scientific and industrial sectors. Recognitions were awarded to outstanding professors, graduates, and students. Professors were recognized for their contribution to the consolidation of the program, while graduates received recognitions for their academic, professional, and social achievements. Students with academic excellence and academic records were also honored.
During the sessions, the transformative role of biotechnology as a science applied to human progress was highlighted, as well as its capacity to integrate knowledge of biology, chemistry, and engineering into innovative solutions for health, food safety, and environmental protection. From gene therapies to soil remediation, this discipline demonstrates its potential to generate well-being and sustainability.
The university reminds biotechnology students that they must always work with equity, sustainability and community service.
