The Reading and Writing Center (CLEA) in the university's branch in Guayaquil held an event titled "Meeting with classic literature", where participants discussed Edgar Allan Poe's book "The Black Cat". The aim of holding this event was to strengthen students' communication skills in oral expression and reading.

The meeting took place on August 4th and 5th in one of the university's auditoriums, which students adorned with drawings and small sculptures that represented the author's life and books. Marjorie Salgado, coordinator of the CLEA said this meeting helped integrate reading and art.

Participants analyzed different parts of the book and answered several questions about the author. The professors who make up the CLEA are: Eric Vélez, Susana Pombo, Rita Recalde, Pedro González, Aura Kuffó, Nelson Mora and Mónica Alencastro.

Monica Alencastro spoke about the importance of rescuing and promoting reading among university students and highlighted the work done by the university to make this happen. "These events guarantee the access, construction and practice of culture as an element for human development", she said.

"We want students to communicate fluently and with great skill, ideas and messages that are necessary for their professional development, as well as to improve reading comprehension, which later have an effect on writing", said Salgado.
