Child development according to Waldorf Education

The pedagogy major at UPS-Quito and Unidad Educativa Nina Pacha organized the Conference titled "Fundamentals of child development according to Waldorf Education" which was led by German Professor Helle Heckmann who has written books and articles about Waldorf education at preschool level.
Over 100 people from several institutions such as Universidad de las Fuerza Armadas (ESPE), Crissálydas, Nina Pacha, Unidad Educativa Lev Vygotsky and Pacha Mama attended the conference to learn more about Waldorf education, an alternative educational system whose proposal is to educate children through games.
This pedagogy was created by Rudolf Steiner and it is based on understanding the human being as a being of body, soul and spirit, whose potentials are developed during the first seven years of life because it is during that time that people learn how to love, feel and think from the inside out. This pedagogy has been around for over 100 years.
Professor Heckmann talked about the essence of children's education: to experience for themselves, feel life and feel a balance in life, which can be achieved through games, fantasy and imagination. "Children should be educated outside their classrooms, be able to run, jump, fall, learn about life in their own space by playing", she said.
She also talked about finding the right activities for children that are short and appropriate for them, such as drawing, coloring, since their attention span is short.
Before ending her talk, Professor Heckmann talked about the teaching methods in most schools in the country and said "children are usually separated by age but ideally they should put together children from 1 to 7 years old, so that they can be together all day, except during lunch time or when they take a nap. We don't want to be an institution, we want to be a family"
