Father Francisco Sánchez is the new Inspector of the Salesianos y Chancellor of UPS

On February 2nd there was a Eucharist celebration to name Father Fransisco Sanchez the new Inspector of Salesians in Ecuador and Chancellor of UPS for the 2017 – 2023 period. The designation was made by the Salesian Rector Major, Father Angel Fernandez Artime on January 18th.

The Inspector is the first person responsible of the Inspectorate and is called to be another Don Bosco for all salesian brothers and youth, especially for the poor and the needy.

The mission of the Inspector, according to article 161of the salesian constitution, is to "encourage religious life and apostolic activity of the inspectorate community; care for the education of its members, especially beginners and young people; direct and control the administration of the Inspectorate's property and each one of its homes."

The Eucharistic celebration was presided by Father Timothy Ploch, regional counselor for Inter America and member of the General Council, and was held in the Maria Auxiliadora Parish in Quito.  The former inspectors, salesian directors, members of the Inspectorate council, salesians from all Ecuador, collaborators, missionaries and salesian bishops from Ecuador.

UPS president Javier Herran, the general vice president Luis Tobar, the vice president of the university's branch in Quito Jose Juncosa and the head of research Juan Pablo Salgado attended the event.

During the Mass, Fr. Jorge Molina, former inspector, handed over the relic of Don Bosco to Fr Francisco Sánchez. "I want to give you this relic, filled with the looks and prayers of so many men and women for whom, from now on, you are called to be a very special father, teacher and friend to all your brothers, collaborators, the Salesian family, as Don Bosco was" said Father Molina.

Then, the new inspector issued the profession of faith with which he assumes the inspectorate, he then signed the decree of appointment issued by the Rector Major. Father Francisco said: "Together with you, I want to do what the constitution demands of us, to form a fraternal community, where we all feel responsible, where the joys of some are the joys of all and where the disadvantages of some find solidarity of all. The inspector is nobody without you, we need everybody.

The new Inspector will lead a community consisting of 24 Salesian Houses and 161 Salesians, with around 168 works throughout the country. Fr. Francisco was the Director of the Salesian Project Ecuador and is the twenty-ninth Provincial of the Salesian Inspectorate "Sacred Heart of Jesus" (Sagrado Corazón de Jesús), founded in 1893.
