On November 7th and 8th the law undergraduate program in our branch campus in Quito held the 2nd National Seminar on Multidisciplinary Law. The event was attended by Maria Sol Villagomez, vice president of our branch campus in Quito; Jorge Rengel, director of the law undergraduate program; Juan Pablo Jacome; Alejandra Apolo and Maria Fernanda Rodriguez, professors who organized the event; Andrea Toapanta, student representative; students and professors. 

 

Maria Sol Villagomez spoke about the importance of law in society and how it has improved coexistence throughout history. Jorge Rengel said “it is important to learn about new trends, new directions, social changes and behavior that force us to adapt. Law must adapt according to social needs”. 


The talks were led by Farith Simon, dean of the law faculty at Universidad San Fransisco de Quito, who spoke about the role of lawyers in a democratic society. Juan Pablo Alban, professor, who presented his research on Human Rights; Jaime Rosero spoke about his experience in alternative methods to solve conflicts; and Sebastian Cornejo, representative of the National Court of Justice, presented the application of precautionary measures.

 

On the second day, Miguel Angulo presented the topic “Autonomy and participation in the Comprehensive Organic Penal Code”; Jorge Luis Mazón, president of the Ecuadorian Institute of Procedural Rights, spoke about the set of norms and principles that regulate the jurisdictional function of the State; Esteban Cornejo, doctor in Human Rights, Democracy and Justice, spoke about cases of complex crime in Ecuador and finally, Marco Morales, from the firm Tobar Morales & Asociados, explained the principles of administrative activity from the judicial point of view .
