3rd Scientific Conference on Automotive Engineering

The automotive engineering undergraduate program in our branch campus in Guayaquil organized its 3rd Scientific Conference on Automotive Engineering in order to encourage students to conduct research and support sustainable development.

The conference was held through zoom with the participation of over 260 participants. UPS officials such as Javier Herran, UPS president, Lauro Pesantes, general vice president, Raul Alvarez, vice president in UPS's campus in Guayaquil, Renato Fierro, director of the automotive engineering undergraduate program, professors, researchers and students.

The speakers were:

Francklin Rivas Echeverría, professor at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Chile. Jairo Castillo, professor at Universidad Nacional de Loja; José Segnini, professor at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Ecuador; Leonardo Pachano, researcher at Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain; and Mariela Cerrada, professor at UPS – Cuenca and researcher in the Research and Development Group of Industrial Technologies (GIDTEC).

Fierro stated that "this academic event is to update participants in automotive topics, to present advances in research and updated proposals by researchers and professionals with experience in this field, who are a valuable source of knowledge. "

"To dream big is to dream that it is possible to have a world where mobility is not a pain, but a joy because behind that work there are men and women engineers who have dedicated their youth to discovering the energy of movement", stated Javier Herrán.

"We are currently protagonists of an unusual time in which we thought that nobody was prepared for this global disruption that we are currently facing, but this has rather caused an immediate reaction to this challenge in education that has allowed us to continue with the processes, demonstrating adaptability of teachers and students", said Fierro.

The first conference was "Applications and challenges of artificial intelligence in Automotive Engineering" presented Francklin Rivas, who explained the techniques of artificial intelligence to be applied to the design, manufacture and quality control of automobiles, safety, internal comfort and ergonomics, maintenance and failure detection of the mechanical system; autonomy, prediction and decision making as a new way of driving; integrated, optimized and sustainable systems; and ethics, legal and social responsibility.

The III Scientific Conference on Automotive Engineering 2020 aims to promote the development of technical projects that promote the excellence of graduates, in addition to creating a link that strengthens students' motivation.
