Professors and students from the journalism major at UPS-Quito are currently co-producing a documentary titled "Compromiso, historia y vida de Salinas de Guaranda" which is about the community of Guaranda in the province of Bolivar, a prosperous community with development initiatives, entrepreneurial processes, well organized and native products for the national and international market.

This progress is thanks to the work done by Father Antonio Polo, a salesian priest who arrived in Ecuador in 1970 and worked tirelessly to improve the community based on solidarity and help it overcome poverty, which affected Salinas de Guaranda 30 years ago.

The 53 minute documentary, in HD format, has been translated into French, Kichwa, English and Italian and will be registered in UNESCO's world memoirs. The production, which belongs to Arancia Film, started in November 2015 and will conclude in October 2016. The documentary is being directed by Italian director Giorgio Diritti, winner of David De Donatello award for best director.

Maria Del Carmen Ramirez, faculty director, said this documentary will strengthen the development process of this community and promote professional interaction between academia and society as well as create other products such as a photograph book and an academic article.
