The basic education undergraduate program in our branch campus in Guayaquil held a talk on reconsidering a professor's role these days. The talk was led by Argentinean expert Ivanna Lopez and the aim was to present educational issues that professors must face today.

The main topic was to reflect on professors' new functions and their role in educating future professionals, what society expects from them and how they are perceived by society. "This situation has been around for a long time. Professors have always been there to guide generations of students", stated Ivanna Lopez.

She stated that it is difficult to have an ideal professor, as expected by society, However, there are social demands that define a professional in education. "Society wants professors to be a body of knowledge, a guide, to teach values", she said.

According to the speaker, there is a difference between expectation and reality of an educator. Sometimes, too much attention is paid to only one type of teacher and this makes reality seem far from its real functions.

During the talk, they also discussed the positive impact of virtual learning, which takes force when the student applies it and understands that what has been learned has an end. On the other hand, evaluation is an important section within the functions of the teacher because, in addition to theoretical knowledge, the skills that students develop must be assessed based on the content that is shared in classrooms. "From a different perspective, evaluation is also a time to learn, it is a moment to realize what you achieved and what you did not achieve," said Ivanna López.

"A teacher must work with his/her heart first and I believe this is fundamental in our career, always do our best for the children we will educate," said Cinthya Zambrano, UPS student.
