During the program on Latin American Culture, our branch campus in Cuenca presented Alvaro Marquez from Uruguay, with the show titled “Mujeres de la Patria Grande”; an international show that combined popular Latin American music, singing, theater and dance which commemorates women’s contributions for over 500 years. There was also a presentation by Maria Judith Hurtado, writer, poet and social worker, who won the “Manuela Espejo” award, and the university’s “TumilPamba” dance group. 

Alvaro Marquez explained the meaning of “Mate”, a traditional drink in Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil and Uruguay. The word “Mate” comes from the quecha word “Mati” which means pumpkin. 

The event was attended by professors, students and administrative staff.
