During a virtual meeting, Patricia Almeida, representative of the public administration of archives from the presidency of Ecuador, awarded UPS president Juan Cardenas the "Excellence" award, which represents the good practices, correct management, protection and maintenance of the institution's documents.

31 public and private Ecuadorian universities were part of this assessment of the organization and maintenance of public documents; UPS had the best score: 100 / 100.

The aim of this initiative is to allow universities to have organized and useful documentation, which at the time of being required by control bodies or citizens it will be of agile access, thus complying with the rules of transparency and access to information.

UPS president Juan Cárdenas stated that access to information "is a right of all people, and that documents considered historical are part of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage relevant to memory and identity of persons or groups, as well as safeguarding of the State".

He recognized the work carried out by the staff of the Archives and Documentation department at the university, for the application of good archival practices that have made this important recognition possible and thus make information transcend as a source of consultation of researchers, historians and enrich the knowledge of new generations of students.
