Biotechnology students apply knowledge of Animal Physiology and Good Agricultural Practices

On July, 6th, ninety one students from the Natural Resources Biotechnology undergraduate program in Quito visited Santa Ines farm, located in the canton of Mejia, in order put all the knowledge learned in class into practice.
Professors Laura Huachi and Nacy Bonifaz guided the students during this visit while they conducted activities such as collecting samples of soil and potato cultivation, collecting microbiological samples, identifying diseases and deficiencies in plants.
Regarding their class of Animal Physiology, the students observed the biotechnological advances applied to the breeding and genetic improvement in cattle of milk production like artificial insemination, transfer of embryos and interracial crossbreeding. Vanesa Albán, a biotechnology student, said that the experience has allowed her to know the professional scope of this career.
Paul Villagrán said "This visit contributes in my academic training because it allows me to apply the methods and expand the vision of the agricultural field, the place of the human being in the environment, and the importance of Biotechnology in the processes of improvement of these systems, which can always be improved."
For professors Huachi and Bonifaz, "Students had the opportunity to apply what they have learnt in class. During the visit, they were able to strengthen their personal, social and professional development"
