Officials from the Salesian Inspectory in Ecuador, Misión Don Bosco and Universidad Politecnica Salesiana (UPS) presented the campaign titled "Donate your computer", which will donate laptops, tablets, keyboards, mouse, speakers, screens to the disadvantaged in 12 different cities.

Father Fransisco Sanchez said this project started in March and they have given away $60 a month to over 4,000 families. "Today we have started the campaign "Donate your computer" so that boys, girls and teenagers can study".

People can donate a computer in all three of the university's branch campuses in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca. Students created an app that will allow donators to track the destination of the device they have donated, which demonstrates transparency. Computer engineering students will assess and repair the devices before they are donated.

Over 30 students in "Sur" campus began this campaign on July 20 and have already repaired more than 100 devices that were sent to Esmeraldas. Tony Cisneros, María José Jácome, Anthony Tandalla and Galo Rocha talked about their experience during these months and explained how to carry out the repair or maintenance of donated equipment. They thanked the university and the Salesian inspectory for giving them the opportunity to put their knowledge at the service of those who need it the most. "Thank you for giving us the opportunity to demonstrate what good Christians and honest citizens are", they said.

María Sol Villagómez, vice president of UPS's campus in Quito highlighted the work carried out by students in community engagement and said she is pleased that this initiative is expanded nationwide as it will allow the university to reach more people. Patsy Prieto, director of the Computer Science undergraduate program, pointed out that it is important to bridge the technological gap in education. The motto "Give to improve" means that as students we can give our creativity, talent and knowledge to improve lives, that is how our students will be better people, professionals in contact with the country's reality".

Prieto explained that the Project has three phases: the first is to collect equipment in good condition from people and companies, then students check the equipment and repair them if necessary, finally they create tutorial videos about the use of several apps.

Another project is to provide internet access through a campaign titled "ConectiviDAR".

"Don't let this opportunity to help people, slip away. Help boys, girls and teenagers who need it the most. We are all responsible for our country, let's help everyone have a better education. Donate your computer"
