On December 12th over 2000 people evacuated the buildings in Campus Giron after the fire drill went off; this was part of a drill to prepare all workers at the University on how to orderly respond to an emergency. 

The drill is part the university's policies on occupational risk prevention. The drills help identify just how effective the emergency plans are; every campus has several brigades and commanders, there is the fire, first aid, evacuation, communication and security brigades, the security commander and the vice president of every campus. 

After the drill, UPS-Quito vice president Viviana Montalvo thanked everyone for their participation and responsibility during the drills. Later on, the Ecuadorian Red Cross evaluated the drill and determined some strengths and weaknesses and certain vulnerable areas.
