Carneros win classic match in the 2014 Nelson Mandela Cup

The University's rugby team Carneros, defeated Aguilas 37-22 in a close match during their third game of the National Rugby Championship, the 2014 Nelson Mandela Cup, with a 15 player system. The match was played in the Universidad Politecnica Salesiana's Valeriano Gavinelli stadium with a decent number of fans who are slowly starting to show their interest in this sport.

This was a special game for the Carneros because they beat the Aguilas (Universidad del Azuay) for the first time in five years since these two teams have faced each other.

It was an even game at the beginning, but the Carneros soon started to use their home field advantage and dominate the game. They were able to overcome the defense and score enough points that made it impossible for the Aguilas to reach. The Carneros were in control of the game thanks to Coach Douglas Rodriguez's strategy and managed to be up by the end of the first half.

The Carneros kept their game going during the second half of the match, looking to score by taking advantage of their fast offensive runners while the visiting team tried to get back into the game. The final score of the match was Carneros 37 Aguilas 22.
