Carneros are on a winning streak

The Universidad Politecnica Salesiana men’s rugby team continues its winning streak in the 2014 Nelson Mandela National Championship. This time, with home field advantage, they defeated the Monos from Guayaquil 48-14. The UPS women’s rugby team also defeated the woman’s Monos 52-5.

At the beginning it was an even match. Both teams showed they have very skilled and talented players, the Monos were the first to score but this did not discourage the local team which looked organized and determined to tie the match. By the end of the first period Carneros was up on the score board 21-7.

The second half was all Carneros, they controlled the game and had a better strategy. They were able to score five try that made them win the match. Now the Carneros are in second place of the National Championship and have a pretty good chance of becoming the leaders.

After their victory the players said they hoped to “keep things up during the second part of the championship so they could qualify to the final round and make their fans happy”.

They promised their fans they would keep training and working hard during the second part of the championship.

The UPS women’s Rugby team defeated the Monas R.C. 52-5 and demonstrated that the process is paying off since it was the official debut of the young girls who were chosen to play for the team after their performance in the high school rugby championship.
