UPS student participated in International Congress in Brazil

Victor Hugo Pulla, an electronic engineering student at UPS- Cuenca, participated in the International Congress “Biosignals and robotics for better and safer living - BRC2014” that was held in the city of Salvador de Bahía in Brazil. Here, he spoke about his research titled: Knee analysis to determine physical parameters on exoskeleton structures.

During his presentation, Victor Hugo Pulla explained that to develop an exoskeleton used to reactivate paraplegic people’s gait, it is necessary to first analyze the different joints involved in the process. Therefore, the aim is to create a model that would allow us to obtain physical parameters that are developed in the knee joint, i.e. “Knee analysis to determine physical parameters on exoskeleton structures”.  I started this research by applying certain concepts I have learned throughout my academic trajectory, starting with the most basic subjects to the most complex.  Choosing the right methodology to develop the model was one of the longest processes due to the assessment of the tools needed to validate the data. After various tests and mathematical support, the results from this project were very encouraging compared to others, and since the research seemed to be headed in right direction the paper was translated and then sent to the international conference “Biosignals and robotics for better and safer living - BRC2014” so that it could be assessed by international researchers, presented and finally published in SCOPUS (scientific journal), he said.

The attendees were surprised to learn that this research project had been carried out by an undergraduate student, they thought it was a masters or a doctorate research project. Victor Hugo said that he had the opportunity to meet people from different parts of the world like Canada, Australia, Germany, Brazil, and even his teacher Ana Cecilia Villa’s Colombian peers, during his stay.
