Research results on energy efficiency and renewable energy

Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, the Engineering Research and Innovation Center and the Energy Research Group presented the results of the research on energy efficiency and renewable energy during a special ceremony held in the Monseñor Leónidas Proaño Auditorium. The university’s main authorities led by its president Javier Herrán Gómez, students, professors and special guests attended this event.

The event started with the University president, Javier Herran Gomez, speaking about how he believes the university is not only about classes; high school is over, classes are very interesting indeed, but university is different, he said. “if you want to be engineers in the XXI century you must conduct research, discover, ask, be questionable and not believe everything they tell you, this is the type of university we want. It is not easy but this is how we have to start; it is wrong to say there is research in the university because the university is research”

Flavio Quizhpi, professor and researcher, said that it is their obligation to present the results of research that is being done to benefit society, and said some results have taken years to obtain. He finished by quoting one of Plutarch’s famous sayings: “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited”.

John Calle spoke about the different research projects that have been conducted successfully.

Julio Viola, a professor under the Prometeo program, explained how UPS works to publish each scientific article written by professors and students on research journals, and added that the articles have improved remarkably.

Luis Tobar, UPS- Cuenca Vice president, congratulated the professors from the Engineering groups for having boosted research at the university. “Unfortunately our country is still behind in research, but I hope one day this can change and when it does Universidad Politécnica Salesiana is ready to face those new challenges.
