Scientific Paper writing contest at UPS

David Valencia, an Electronic Engineering student, and Luis González, a Systems Engineering student, won first place in the first “Scientific Paper writing contest” organized by the Electrical and Electronic engineering majors at UPS-Cuenca.

The winning paper is titled “Design and implementation of a robot to assist an elderly person”. In second place was Juan Sebastian Ochoa’s paper titled “Autonomous Support System for mobile devices based on pattern recognition and computerized vision”. And in third place Luis Quevedo´s paper titled “Initial results of an induction based water heater prototype.

The academic event was held in the Monseñor Luis Alberto Luna Tobar university auditorium where UPS-Cuenca vice president Luis Tobar Pesántez encouraged students to write more papers.

Eduardo Calle, director of the Engineering research and innovation center, said “this is the most important event that has been held in the area of science and technology at UPS. This is the beginning of a new era for engineering majors”.

Marco Carpio and René Ávila, directors of Electrical and Electronic engineering respectively, said that the aim of this academic event was to motivate students to write scientific articles since this is one of the major requirements in higher education.
