UPS and Universidad Iberoamérica from Mexico signed an agreement

Luis Tobar Pesántez, Universidad Politécnica Salesiana- Cuenca Vice president and José Morales Orozco, Universidad Iberoamérica, Mexico (LA UIA), President signed an inter- institutional cooperation agreement to start a Center for Rehabilitation Engineering and Technology (ClTeR® -Cuenca) here at UPS- Cuenca, having the Center for Rehabilitation Engineering and Technology of UIA (CITeR®) as a model.

Universidad de Iberoamérica agreed to train the staff that will be chosen by UPS to take part in CITeR®- Cuenca, to help with the design, the creation and the operation of CITeR®- Cuenca, and to assist in the selection of tools and equipment that will be needed to work in CITeR®- Cuenca. While UPS agreed to assign the people needed to develop the projects that have been approved by UIA and UPS, as well as guaranteeing the operation of CITeR®- Cuenca. UPS will also provide resources for the infrastructure, the furniture, and the technology needed to carry out the projects; it will also keep and protect the image of CITeR®, and finally cooperate with UIA in student exchange programs that will take place during this agreement.

César Vásquez, the UPS- Cuenca Vice president (in charge) and Dr. Jorge Letechipia on behalf of the Universidad Iberoamérica President attended a ceremony to sign the agreement which was held in the Monseñor Leonidas Proaño Auditorium.

After the ceremony, Dr. Jorge Letechipia spoke about how the Center for Rehabilitation Engineering and Technology in Mexico works and pointed out its achievements.

He presented some of the projects they have designed and developed, all of which are aimed at technologically helping people with disabilities. He highlighted the support that his higher education institution has given each one of the projects so they could succeed. He also talked about the things that the center itself has done to get the funds that are needed to achieve its goals.
