Our university's community engagement department donated SURKAN mechanical ventilators, made in Ecuador, to the following hospitals which belong to the Ministry of Public Health: Hospital General Guasmo Sur in the city of Guayaquil, Hospital Enrique Garcés in the city of Quito and Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso in the city of Cuenca.

UPS president Juan Cardenas and Fransisco Sanchez, inspector of Salesians in Ecuador stated that "today, more than ever it is important to work together in order to overcome this crisis the world is facing and a great way to do it is through academia with the support of technology".

UPS president Juan Cardenas explained that the equipment is ventilation and respiratory monitoring instruments, which combines high-performance ventilation that allows monitoring ventilation with the patient's respiratory mechanics through digital indicators to meet the demands of medical care environments.

The vice president of our branch campus in Guayaquil, Raúl Álvarez, said: "we are here to provide this necessary equipment and be of some help. This is intended to contribute and strengthen care for all those people suffering from Covid-19. The hospitals belong to the Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health".

Rody Santacruz, representative of the ministry of public health, stated that it is very important to have this link with academia. He thanked the university for its support to hospitals.
