Historical records were presented to the first university graduates

As part of the celebrations for the university’s 30th anniversary, the document management department held a meeting in our branch campus in Quito and presented historical records to the first university graduates.

 

The meeting was presided by Father Juan Cárdenas, president of UPS; Fernando Pesántez, general vice-president; María Sol Villagómez, vice president of our branch campus in Quito; Fr. Robert García, provincial delegate to the Superior Council and director of the Salesian Community of Esmeraldas; Father Marcelo Coronel, director of the University Pastoral and Andrea Ibáñez, undersecretary of SENESCYT. It was attended by representatives from the Document Management department in Cuenca and Guayaquil, the Ministry of Culture, the University Archives Network, the National Historical Archive, the Ecuadorian Association of Archivists, the CES Higher Education Council, the Education Quality Assurance Council, directors, teachers and administrative staff.

 

In his speech, Juan Cardenas said “We want digital technologies to improve our systems, processes, services and decision-making and to do so we must be careful in the planning, organization, control and documentary records. This event not only marks a significant milestone in the preservation of our rich academic heritage, but also symbolizes the eternal connection between our institution and those who were pioneers of its success”.


 
Ibáñez spoke about the university’s efficiency and effort to provide quality services. “I want to publicly recognize the work and vision of university officials who have recognized the importance of archival and documentary management for digital transformation, which represents a faithful and solid commitment to delivery and constantly improve the quality of the services provided to students”.

 

Ladino stressed the digital administration supported by ICT carried out by the university and showed the system that is being used. The event was also attended by Diego Pérez, advisor from CACES, who congratulated the university for this innovative initiative that can motivate other institutions to transform their historical archives into digital ones.
