Using the equipment in the laboratory

To improve the laboratories used by students majoring in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, automotive engineering, mechatronics and industrial engineering, our branch campus in Cuenca is currently optimizing the equipment in the materials destructive testing lab.

This is an essential process in the field of engineering since it tests the resistance of materials that will later be used in production.

Fran Reinoso, professor of mechanical engineering, explained that the optimization of the equipment is being carried out by "Labmetro" company, which uses the best technology in the market. The tests enable students to test raw material; several companies come to the university to use the laboratory and test their materials.

The equipment in the laboratory enables people to know if the material is appropriate for a certain use, the force it can withstand and its degree of elasticity.

The most common materials people work with are: steel, ceramics and polymers (blocks and tiles). Around 200 students use this laboratory, professors at UPS are updated with its use and are able to better support students
