The book "Interculturalidad. Problemáticas y perspectivas diversas"

On January 31st, in the university's Abya Yala library, they presented the book "Interculturalidad. Problemáticas y perspectivas diversas" written by María Sol Villagómez, Sebastián Granda, Amanda Tello, Patricio Guerrero, Fernando Garcés, Stéphane Vinolo and Julián García. The coordinators were professors Ruben Bravo and Fernando Garcés.

The book presents reflexive horizons around interculturality to think about philosophy, public policy, university, teacher training and social struggles. Bravo contextualized the book and noted that "interculturality is linked to diversity. However, it is necessary to think about the possibility of a critical route of human action."

For Alexis Oviedo, from Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar de Ecuador, it is a basic book in order to understand the concept of interculturality, for others it can be utopian, for others often treated for the practices of power. Then, Armando Muyulema, from the University of Wisconsin, said that interculturality has lost its critical turn and its utopian value to become a rhetorical device of discourse. He made an analysis of the articles in the book at the end of which he congratulated the authors and the university.

Milagros Aguirre, general editor of the Abya Yala Publishing House, raised the following questions: What is missing in order to have an application of the norms of interculturality in coexistance? How to train intercultural teachers who think in an intercultural way so that the effort is not only for the student? Why is interculturality not an academic process but a political one? which were answered by the authors.
