International Conference on Communication and Applied Sciences (ICOMTA 2022)

Our branch campus in Cuenca held the International Conference on Communication and Applied Sciences (ICOMTA 2022), which was organized together with Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and Universidad del Rosario (Colombia).
National and international researchers, professors and different people involved in the field of communication and applied technologies attended the conference to share experiences with professionals in digital communication, journalism, and also with students majoring in communication, sociology, politics, health and technology, big data and use of software.
During the inauguration of the conference, Juan Cardenas, UPS president, stressed the importance of having academic meetings because it contributes to digital literacy. “As a university, our challenge is to educate people on digital advances”.
For Daniel Barredo, honorary president of ICOMTA, this conference has become a benchmark in Latin America for two reasons: first because it is an event that seeks to integrate communication and technologies, and second because it is organized collaboratively with Latin American and Spanish universities.
The 2022 edition of ICOMTA presented about 150 papers from 352 authors from 18 countries. There were four conferences and 25 meetings during this event, considered one of the biggest Latin American events on communication. There were some clear trends on conducting research on communication and politics, technology and post pandemic issues.
At the closing ceremony, they announced that the city of Puebla, Mexico will hold the 2023 International Conference on Communication and Applied Technologies.
