Neuroscience and its application in higher education

The psychology undergraduate program in our branch campus in Quito organized a talk on “Neuroscience and its application in higher education”. The speaker was Roberto Ravera, director of the department of clinical psychology at the National Health Service of Italy and the founder of “Centro Ravera” for child soldiers in Sierra Leona, Africa.
He spoke about the "mentalization deficit" which is the inability to understand one's own behavior and that of others in accordance with mental states, emotions and interpersonal behavior as an obstacle to emotional and academic development.
He also stressed that one of the strategies to reinforce learning is to incorporate arts such as music, theater and dance into academic practices to generate experiences that have a positive impact on people.
“Neuroscience has helped us discover very important things in order to understand the evolution of the brain and mind. These findings help us define the contours of clinical, therapeutic, and educational processes,” said Ravera.
The event was attended by María Sol Villagómez, Vice president of our branch campus in Quito; Ximena Andrade, Director of the Psychology program; Esteban Inga, Research Coordinator, teachers and students, who learned about how the environment contributes or harms teaching-learning processes.
