The university's higher education council has approved the creation of the new research group in Arts and Humanities (ATARAXIA for its acronym in Spanish).

Its activities will be to strengthen humanistic education in the educational and political context of society. "We want to inspire students from the epistemology of knowledge and wisdom for the solution of conflicts that are generated in society," said Victor Iza, coordinator of the group.

The thematic areas that the group addresses, derived from humanistic and artistic reflection, are directed to Epistemologies, knowledge and interculturality; Spiritualities, theology and interculturality; Philosophy of education; Philosophical and theological thinking; Comparative literature; Literary theory; Didactics of art and the humanities.

The group is made up by the following professors: Víctor Iza Villacis, Reynier Rodríguez González, Roberto Briones Yela, José Peláez Freire, Augusto Rodríguez Ramos and Eric Vélez Montesdeoca.

The research group will also work with the Archdiocese of Guayaquil, a project that seeks to analyze the competences of professors in the area of philosophy, art and humanities. In addition, an activity is being planned with Franciscana de la Inmaculada Concepción in Ecuador. "There are other projects that are not only linked to theoretical research but also generate practical circumstances that contribute significantly to society," said Iza
