Presentation of the book:¿Cómo se mide el acoso sexual?

To commemorate the international day for the elimination of violence against women, celebrated every November 25th, the psycho social research group, the Abya Yala publishing house, the university network on sexual harassment and the psychology undergraduate program presented the book: "¿Cómo se mide el acoso sexual? Aportes para determinar la prevalencia del acoso sexual en las instituciones de educación superior". The book was coordinated by Paz Guarderas and Juan Cuvi.
Maria Sol Villagomez, vice president of the university's campus in Quito, said the book "makes us reflect on this and other ways of discrimination and violence women have to face".
Guarderas said the research started in 2016 with the study "La cara oculta del machismo. Repercusiones en la salud de las mujeres ecuatorianas como consecuencia de la violencia y discriminación en el espacio laboral". In 2017, an agreement was reached to carry out research on gender violence and health in six universities: Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (UASB), Instituto de Altos Estudios Nacionales (IAEN), Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE), Universidad Central del Ecuador and Universidad de Cuenca.
The aim has been to contribute to the education, formulation and application of public and academic policies to fight against, prevent and eradicate sexual harassment in higher education institutions (HEIs) in Ecuador, based on reliable data that allow us to measure this phenomenon.
The comments of the book were made by Rodrigo Jiménez, Executive Director of the "Justice and Gender" Foundation and Cristina Burneo, professor and researcher at the UASB. Burneo stated that the design and validation of an instrument used for measuring sexual harassment, as well as the data that it provides, represents a contribution from academia to enable the intervention of authorities in the face of a problem.
Jiménez stressed that the research provides inputs and instruments to establish care protocols and prevention campaigns on sexual harassment. "Changing cultural patterns is very complex, actions are required and the book gives us elements to develop those actions from different disciplines, legal norms, legal frameworks to develop public policies".
The authors of the book are: María de Lourdes Larrea, Christian Paula, Milena Almeida, Paulina Palacios, Jimmy Yépez, Juan Cuvi, María José Gutiérrez, Daniela Acosta and Paz Guarderas.
