The university is pleased to present the book: “Comunicar y educar en el mundo digital. Contribución y desafíos de la pedagogía de Don Bosco y el sistema preventivo en la dimensión virtual”. The book was coordinated by UPS president Juan Cardenas Tapia and professor Andrea De Santis; it was published by McGraw Hill, which specializes in education and social sciences.

The book has 15 chapters divided into 3 sections with articles from 27 authors from different countries who are members of Salesian institutions.

The digital world, web platforms and social networks cannot be simply considered a means of communication, because they are new anthropological and sociopolitical spaces where people leave their digital footprints defining the context and the characteristics of their interaction.

Like in the city of Turin at the end of the 19th century, which was profoundly disrupted by industrialization, modern society faces a social revolution that affects people’s lives, particularly the most vulnerable sectors. Young people in today's information society find themselves living reality differently from adults, often abandoned to face the challenges of a hyperconnected daily life.

Don Bosco responded to these social challenges with the foundation of Salesian institutions and the application of his preventive system for vulnerable young people of Turin. Today, the Salesian pedagogical model based on Don Bosco's preventive system is at the center of reflection on the need to offer quality academic and social education and training in emerging scenarios. Especially, given the new spaces of the digital world, it is essential to ask: Is it possible to accompany young people in this digital world?

Professors, researchers, religious people and professionals from the Salesian world, from Brazil, Ecuador, Spain, Italy and Venezuela, provide reflections, visions, experiences and expectations regarding their work as educators, scientists, managers and communicators.
