The winners of the 2014 Retos Yachay contest were Flavio Quizhpi and Marcelo Fajardo with their project "Filtro Activo", and Ricardo Prieto and Carlos Tamay with their project "Arpa Arduino". It was a 5 month long competition with the best universities in the country where the winners had to pass several very demanding stages before making it to the finals of the First Science Fair "Innopolis 2015" held in Yachay. The winners were announced by Ecuador's main higher education authorities during this fair.

UPS presented four projects created by the electrical and electronic engineering majors; they were all among the 16 finalists.

At the fair, UPS-Cuenca students presented the Formula SAE car that was designed and built in the university's automotive mechanical engineering laboratory and participated in the Silverstone race last year.

Jorge Fajardo Seminario also presented the project titled "PGWood" which turns agro industrial resources available in the country into new materials that could be used in engineering.

For UPS authorities this victory represents professors' and students' hard work and dedication to research. They  said would strongly continue supporting research projects.
