Our branch campus in Guayaquil and “Centro Campus” organized a qualifying competition for the “World Robot Olympiad” (WRO) robotics competition. Students majoring in electronics and mechatronics engineering took part in the competition.

First year mechatronics students won first place in the “Senior” category and will represent the university in the final in Dortmund, Germany in the International WRO.

The participating institutions are: Centro Campus Academy, Unidad Educativa Thomas More, Unidad Educativa Bilingüe La Moderna, Unidad Educativa Particular Bilingüe Liceo Panamericano (Sambo) and Universidad Politecnica Salesiana’s branch campus in Guayaquil with 45 participants divided into 19 teams.

These activities seek to awake people’s  interest in new technologies, new jobs of the future and encourage digital competencies. “We have been working in steam, robotics and programming with young kids since 2016; the WRO started in Ecuador in 2017, it was first held in the “Palacio de Cristal” and it is now the first post pandemic event held at the university” said Shammy Coelo Jairala, Manager of “Centro Campus” and coordinator of the event.

Diego Vargas, mechatronics student, said the competition was an exciting experience where they were able to show their knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering. “It was a fun and exciting experience to present our project. We are very happy to represent our country in the international competition”, she said.
