Professors looked back at Eliseo Verón’s and Gabriel García Márquez’s intellectual accomplishments

On May 7th students and teachers from the Social Communication major gathered in the Giron campus cafeteria for the event called “Un café para Verón y Márquez” or “Coffee for Verón and Márquez. The aim of the event was to make people think about the legacy that the writer and journalist, Gabriel Garcia Márquez and the Argentinian communicator Eliseo Verón left behind. These two intellectuals transcended with their thoughts and greatly influenced Latin America and the world.

Around phrases such as “The problem with marriage is that it ends every night after making love and it must be rebuilt every morning before breakfast” by Gabriel García Márquez or “Peace obtained with a sword is no more than a truce” by Verón people performed several artistic, academic, and cultural activities full of inspiration, feeling and conversation among the participants.

This event was held in the morning and in the afternoon; during both sessions María del Carmen Ramírez, Director of the Social Communication major, congratulated the organizers. “I thank students and teachers for being here and creating spaces for academic opinion as well as artistic and cultural expression” she said.

There were several artistic presentations during the event, but one of the most acclaimed was Jaime Torres’ performance, who played boleros, pasillos, and valses.

There were also performances done by other professors like Leonardo Ogaz who did poetry, Mónica Ruiz and Laura Ciudad who talked about the time Marquez was a journalist, Miguel Angel Soto talked about Veron’s legacy in the Communication field, Isabel Paredes sang some rap songs, and Patricia Guerra closed the event by singing Latin American songs. Students also showed off their singing, poetry and declamation skills.

The event was organized by Professor Miguel Angel Soto and a group a students.
