Our branch campus in Cuenca and the Senior Citizens Center (CAAM for its acronym in Spanish) from the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute in Cuenca, held a rehabilitation program for senior citizens with neurocognitive degeneration. The program was based on serious games, educational electronics kits, basic robotics and expert systems.

The program uses mobile devices and a kit for teaching electronics and robotics fully designed and developed by the UNESCO Chair in Support Technologies for Inclusive Education, the Research Group on Artificial Intelligence and Assistive Technologies (GI-IATa) and the Computer Science engineering undergraduate program at UPS. The electronic kit is inexpensive and allows the assembly of more than 20 electronic circuits. On the other hand, serious games allow two older adults to develop collaborative games to improve their memory, spatial reasoning, and eye-hand coordination.

In the first stage of the program-workshop, there were a total of 20 senior citizens from the CAAM, who were satisfied with what they learned and, above all, because they had the opportunity to do new things that allowed them to work together. At the end of the course, they were awarded participation certificates.

The group of people in the university who are working on this rehabilitation program for older adults with neurocognitive degeneration, is made up of students from the Computer Science Engineering undergraduate program, Verónica Villa, Paulina Cabrera, Karina Panamá, the tutor of the programs is Vladimir Robles Bykbaev and professors Efrén Lema Condo and Ana María Parra.
