The university's intercultural education major held a conference titled "Cambios identitarios de los jóvenes indígenas de Cotopaxi: estudio de caso en las comunidades de San Isidro  y Maca Grande" or Identity Changes of Indigenous Youth from Cotopaxi. The speakers were Duval Muñoz Naranjo, a technician in local development of the International Cotopaxi Plan, and Alba Simaluisa Chancusi, coordinator of the Chaka Wasi Indigenous Education Center.

The aim of the event was to present the results of the research project carried out in the community and which helped identify the problems that affect young indigenous people's identity changes in Cotopaxi.

After an ethnographic study, some of the findings of this project were that identity changes were caused by migration, which produce profound changes in people's thoughts and lifestyle, traditions are weak and a uniform educational process based on technical and scientific knowledge which in turn decreases family and community education. Additionally, the media encourages more consumption and individualism.

The speakers said that intercultural education has not yet been able to strengthen the cultural identity of young indigenous people in Cotopaxi, and are looking for ways to strengthen their identity, solve problems and suggest changes from an intercultural perspective.
