On April 3rd the research coordination department in the university's branch campus in Guayaquil started a course on Scientific Writing for 40 UPS professors. The aim of the course is to support salesian professors to write papers and increase their possibilities of being accepted for publication.

The course is ideal for professors to share and discuss issues on scientific writing in several fields. "It's interesting to see professors attending these activities which allow them to increase their knowledge regarding research issues", said Pablo Perez, research coordinator in Guayaquil.

The topics of the course are:

-    Characteristics of scientific writing

-    Types of scientific articles

-    The process of scientific research

-    General characteristics of the publication process

-    Entries from Google Scholar, ISI WoS Scopus, Science Direct, Scielo and Redalyc

-    Research and projects in community involvement

The course will be led by Yoandris Sierra PhD., Eddy Conde PhD. and Pablo Perez. The course will end on April 18th.

On the other hand, this activity is a prelude to the 2017 Scientific Writing Contest, which aims to give professors the possibility of demonstrating their ability to research, write and present their scientific work to the university community. "Professors must submit a paper at the end of the course and if they meet the learning requirements they will be awarded a certificate of achievement," Perez said.

Professors who pass the first phase of the competition will have personalized tutorials from CIS researchers. The projects chosen as finalists will be exhibited next June 22 where a prize will be awarded for the best work in the several categories.
