Seminar on multidisciplinary law in our branch campus in Quito

The Law undergraduate program in our branch campus in Quito held a seminar on multidisciplinary law from the 21st to the 23rd of June. The aim of the event was to strengthen knowledge, discuss and analyze criminal, civil, labor, administrative issues; as well as social problems that affect legal practice in the country.

 

The seminar was attended by more than 400 students and professors. The opening session was attended by María Sol Villagómez, vice president in our branch campus in Quito; Jorge Iván Rengel, director of the law undergraduate program, Juan Pablo Jácome, professor and coordinator of the event; and Sebastián Benítez, national deputy director of Mediation and Peace Justice at the Judiciary Council.

 

Sebastian Benítez, presented the topic “The effectiveness of mediation, a practical and theoretical analysis”; Then, Juan Pablo Aguilar, professor, who spoke about the prescription, expiration of actions and resources according to the COA. Erika Jiménez presented several administrative procedures; Diana Guerrero focused on tax reforms and fiscal policy and Ximena Bustamante explained alternative methods of conflict resolution in Ecuador.

 

On the second day, Daniela Camacho, judge of the National Court, spoke about processes with a gender perspective; Michael Erazo, lawyer, spoke about mediate authorship and organized power apparatuses from a criminal perspective; Mauro Andino, expert in Constitutional Law and professor at UPS, focused on the issue of “muerte cruzada” (“crossed death”) in the Ecuadorian context and Diego Tinajero, lawyer at Universidad de las Americas, spoke about the contractual relationship within the modern legal regime.


 
On the last day, the speakers were Rafael Oyarte, constitutionalist, who explained the requirements to present an extraordinary protection action; Washington Pesantez, former Attorney General, spoke about criminal sciences and criminal policy; Graciela Monesterolo, labor activist, about the approval of public and private workers and César Montúfar, internationalist and professor at UASB, spoke about international processes and events and their impact on the national reality.
