The communication major at UPS-Cuenca held a seminar aimed at improving students' academic writing skills and the use of the APA style. The seminar was held once professors detected the lack of students' competencies in this field and to strengthen academic skills.

The 30 hour course was led by professors Fernanda Jimenez, Carmen Álvarez and Pedro Colángelo. The aims of the seminar were to:

• Raise awareness of the importance of language
• Update knowledge on language trends
• Improve the use of language
• Reach consensus in the presentation of projects
• Use strategies in building academic writing
• Develop expertise in the use of spelling rules
• Reinforce the proper use of conventional academic writing standards -APA
