The community engagement department in our branch campus in Guayaquil organized several workshops for small businesses located in "Barrio Cuba".

Carolina Marmol, director of the community engagement department, explained the benefits of the workshops. The project seeks to solve several problems in the community such as children’s health problems caused by poor nutrition, strengthen the operation of small businesses, create new business ideas and introduce a recycling program.

The business administration undergraduate program presented a workshop on sustainability and some accounting tools. The basic education, architecture, biomedicine, dentistry, industrial engineering, environmental engineering and psychology undergraduate programs are also involved in the project.

Andres Flores, student majoring in business administration, said “it’s a great opportunity to work with people with from “Barrio Cuba” and teach them what we have learned, such as accounting and marketing so that their businesses can be successful”.

Maria de los Angeles Acuña, one of the citizens of “Barrio Cuba” and an entrepreneur, said she was happy to learn about “basic topics to help our businesses grow, such as marketing, advertising and accounting”.
