This semester, Maria Fernanda Mediavilla, a student with hearing impairment, will begin her studies in basic education in the university's branch campus in Quito, "El Giron" campus. In this regard, representatives from Full Deaf Quality (FDQ) company, which is managed by people with hearing impairment and was created to provide services to people with impairments. They conducted informative talks for professors in order to create awareness and recommend inclusive activities.

Mediavilla was the flag bearer in Unidad Educativa de Sordos de Ibarra (educational institution for the deaf), she is also responsible for a project with deaf children and young people in FDQ, which is the company financing her studies at UPS. She is happy and thankful for having this opportunity to study and fulfill one of her dreams: to be a teacher and teach people with hearing impairment.

Mayra Carcelen, president of FDQ and director of the project "yachay guagua", said Mediavilla will be with an interpreter at all times;  Wendy Herrera who will be her classmate will support her academically.

Members of the Inclusive education research group (GEI) , made up by Miriam Gallegos Navas, Miriam Gallego Condoy, Alberto Duchi, Ramiro Rubio and Fulvio Cabrera hope these inclusive practices continue and that UPS creates academic spaces that promote tolerance, respect and solidarity.
