Students in our branch campus in Guayaquil took part in "CANstruction", a solidarity event

Our branch campus in Guayaquil took part in a competition where students had to build a sculpture using food cans that would later be donated to foundations that care for children and the elderly. There were participants from 12 high schools and 7 universities from Guayaquil, Daule and Samborondon.
3 professors and 14 students from the architecture, environmental engineering, multimedia design and civil engineering undergraduate programs took part in the competition.
“This is social work aimed at 159 institutions and 52,000 beneficiaries. Every year, there are more universities that take part”, said Mauricio Ramirez, member of the food bank DIAKONIA.
Raul Alvarez Guale, vice president of our branch campus in Guayaquil, said he is proud to be part of an institution that takes part in activities to help people in need. “I want to congratulate students, professors and administrative staff who have been part of this competition”, he said.
Maria Fernanda Viteri, director of the architecture undergraduate program, said that what started out as an idea in the classroom, has now turned into an act of solidarity for people in need. “I congratulate everyone who has donated food cans, we were able to collect over 3000 cans”, she said.
“I like helping people, so I joined this event; it has been great and I think it is a really good way to encourage students to take part in activities like these”, said Axel Castro, student majoring in architecture.
Paulette Salazar, student majoring in multimedia design, said it has been a very enriching experience since she and her classmates worked together to help society.
