Students visited Holcim company
Civil engineering students in our branch campus in Guayaquil visited Holcim Ecuador company to learn about the technology used in this industry to improve chemical elements and properties found in construction materials.
57 students were happy to learn more about the processes used to improve product quality. "Students feel really motivated during these visits to different industries related to the field of civil engineering", said Pedro Peña, director of the undergraduate program.
Students firstly learned about the security measures in Holcim, which go for both workers and visitors. They then took a tour of the laboratories to learn about all the technological equipment used in the company's processes, main controls and quality control.
"This is a great opportunity for students to have a close view of a company that is absolutely related to their field of study", said Jorge Saquicela, Holcim representative.
Students saw how quality control of the raw material used to obtain the cement is done through an automated reception, sample and analysis process where the resistance of both cement and concrete is checked. In addition, they learrned about the management of the control room boards that are censoring and monitoring all the main equipment of the plant, such as ovens, burners, mills, etc.
Directors of the Civil Engineering undergraduate program are constantly working with other companies and industries that help reinforce students' knowledge.
