A special ceremony was held for 42 people, students, professors and administrative staff, from our branch campus in Quito who were awarded the international Cambridge English Certificates. The ceremony was attended by Javier Herran, university president; Jose Juncosa, vice president of our campus in Quito; Adriana Guanuche, coordinator of the language institute; Steve Tomkins, country manager of Cambridge Ecuador; and Alex Escobar, director of Education First.

Javier Herran congratulated everyone for their achievement and spoke about the importance of mastering English in the 21st century. "This language is absolutely linked to a professional's capacity to be successful. it is as important as science", he said.

Paul Alvarez, computer engineering student, said "this certificate gives us a competitive advantage in the face of globalization, therefore the possibility to interact and communicate in a foreign language increases our opportunities to be better professionals".

Tomkins stated: "the certificates you have been awarded demonstrate your progress in English to the world and it will allow you to transmit your experience and country's culture to others".

The university was also awarded a certificate form Education First for having surpassed 100 international certifications. A total of 256 students have received international Cambridge certificates, KET (Basic user), PET (Independent User), FCE (High Intermediate) and CAE (Competent User).
