The Jibaros Quito Rugby Club in the men's category and the Guayacanas, from Guayaquil, in the women's category, were the winners of the 2017 Rugby Seven Competition "Copa Don Bosco", a national tournament organized by the "Carneras" UPS team from the university's branch campus in Cuenca.  

The "Jibaros" team from Quito beat the "Academia Naval" team from Guayaquil in the final game 12 – 7 by playing a great game at both ends. A good number of fans attended the games that were held in the university's soccer field in Cuenca.

The "Tiburones" from Guayaquil and the "Carneras" from Cuenca played in the women's final match. It was a hard fought game but the "Tiburones" were able to come up with the victory 17 – 7. 

There were 12 male and 6 female teams, all from different parts of the country, which made up about 150 participants. UPS officials attended the opening ceremony; Cesar Vasquez, vice president of the university's branch campus in Cuenca welcomed the participating teams and thanked them for taking part of the competition.

In the closing ceremony, Edission Mendez, the main coordinator of the competition, thanked all the participating teams, congratulated the winners and thanked the university's officials for all their support.
