The agriculture undergraduate program celebrated its 20th anniversary with forums, cultural activities and a cycling trip.

Maria Sol Villagomez, vice president of our branch in Quito; Javier Herran, director of the Salesian Community in Cayambe; Janss Beltrán, director of the undergraduate program; Charles Cachipuendo, from the Researh and Innovation Center; Mauricio Zambrano, president of the undergraduate program; professors, students and administrative staff attended the formal event.

They spoke about the beginning of the program, its impact on the agriculture sector; and they acknowledged the work of Father Javier Herran for his contributions to the program.

Janns Beltrán spoke about the paradigm of agriculture called the Green Revolution, which allowed us to feed ourselves for around 70 years. “Unfortunately, this caused a negative impact on natural resources such as water, soil, and air. Production was hard and it turned farmers into another productive component and food into merchandise. It is here where the agricultural sciences have the possibility of offering life itself, which makes them a noble profession”, he said. Then, he thanked those who began and accompanied this journey from its beginnings with good judgment, familiarity, affection and knowledge.

Father Javier Herran spoke about the quality of the program, students’ and professors’ creativity to incorporate science and technology in agriculture. Finally, professors Carlos Romero and John Arias presented the book “Algebra matricial”, which explains the mathematical concepts needed to understand how it can be used in different aspects of agricultural activities.
